ReBrand Illustrations: Andy Goodman for The Irish Independent

Do you have a favourite few from the 40?
This guy below with arms outstretched my favourite! He represents environment and is quite at home immersed in the everyday.
I also like the expression and commitment of this Gaelic hurling player on the right here. All the illustrations for this project were created by vector. I prefer accuracy in a line but also like to loosen it with little flourishes, twists and turns like the ones you see in the hurling player’s hair.

Andy said “It’s been an honour to work on this project with my illustrations being rolled out across the paper’s marketing, promotions and digital editions.”
Your work is clear and astute, short and sharp. Does your mind ‘think’ in visuals all the time or do you switch in and out of real world and the world between your ears?
I’m fascinated by what I hear in the real world. My ideas are often triggered by language and conversation, there’s certain words and phrases that get lodged in my head which I’m compelled to write down and realise with pencil or as an illustrator vector. Sometimes I do have a visual in mind but, as with my process as a whole, it’s very much trial and error. Sometimes ideas work, sometimes they don’t!
